Hard work and dedication pays off with Robin's Nest Sewing School
Victoria Pond (Robin’s niece from Canada)
spends her summer in Africa helping at Robins Nest Global Child
In April 2014 I was very fortunate to work and live at Robin's Nest Global Child, a children's home in Bungoma, Kenya. My aunt and uncle who live in Australia are the directors. It houses 21 children and strives to provide learning opportunities to them and the community to provide them with necessary skills to better their lives.
Robin's Nest Global Child holds an on-site sewing school for marginalized women in the co mmunity The course offered provides them with training in sewing skills so that they may become certified tailors and acquire a job or start their own business. Upon graduation they receive their own sewing machine to get them started.
Recently, the sewing program was contracted to produce 100,000 sanitary napkin kits for girls in the region in a project with the First Lady of Bungoma and the Red Cross The topic of menstruation is very taboo and girls often miss weeks at a time, putting them farther and farther back in their studies due to lack of knowledge or resources to deal with their menses.

Robin's Nest Global Child wishes to create a new sewing school in Homa Bay. This is a much better location and will have better resources to focus on the school. Currently there are 34 individuals wait listed for this school. The new school will be much better equipped for training and to meet the demands of the sanitary napkin project as part of their training. The donations will be used to purchase the deed to the land, construct the building, and purchase materials such as sewing machines, thread, and material.
Please consider donating to provide opportunities and to open doors to marginalized individuals. The greatest gift you can give someone is the gift of knowledge and skills so that they may help themselves
